New Fleece on Life A Silo Story Lacuna Crossover eBook David Adams
Wool fanfiction never stops. In a recent post, Hugh Howey indicated that David Adams was the first writer to initiate the trend, and that his story was now available on Amazon. Needless to say, it was downloaded seconds later on my Kindle. And read in one sitting.
What a brilliant, poignant narrative! David Adams joins the ranks of talented Wool fanfiction authors such as WJ Davies, Jason Gurley, Patrice Fitzgerald and Lyndon Perry (and probably others I haven't read yet) in terms of quality. His originality lies in the way he merged two universes: Wool, and his own Lacuna series. I have never read the latter, but I probably will give it a try now!
The result is awesome, as Adams manages to pack action, suspense, romance, likeable characters and thought-provoking stuff in a small amount of pages. I liked the fact that the story was fascinating in itself, while offering an even more satisfying, between the lines "message": David Adams's love and respect for someone else's universe is mirrored in the events of the story, and in its two main characters, Holston and Liao.
Both characters get to know each other through stories of their respective worlds, thus creating the kind of mise en abîme I adore: stories within stories, giving birth to new stories. Which, in that case, is more relevant than ever, given that this is fanfiction.
David Adams's work is top-notch, and much deeper than it may appear at first glance - even if, for once, he is one author to get us out of the silo... Two thumbs up!

New Fleece on Life A Silo Story Lacuna Crossover eBook David Adams Reviews
Blending two story line--or trying to--only confuses the followers of both genres. Why can't authors and publishers leave a good thing alone?
The book is just as the author describes it. He is not kidding! If you are hoping for a wool story, you will be disappointed. Interesting concepts though.
As the author forewarns, this story doesn't really follow the Wool plot but take one of its characters on a totally separate journey involving spacecraft, time travel, and even aliens. Though the author also says it is written poorly, I didn't find that the mistakes caused me much trouble while reading, or hinder my enjoyment. I had been hesitant at the thought of purchasing the book at first because I wanted to stick to the Wool plot line but the reviews talked me into believing I would be ok with the different story. Now I am here, writing my own review, in hopes of helping someone trying to make the same decision, and to say go for it. I don't think you will be disappointed. It only took me 1-2 hours to read the entire thing as I couldn't put it down and I'm not the only one that had that dilemma ,and you just might too.
I actually truly loved this story! Wool is already one of my favorite books of all time and I usually don't like fan fic so I was extremely surprised by how immediately hooked I was on this story.
This Wooliverse fan fic picks up on Holsten's story where Wool 1 left off, only in a much different direction. This is a cross over from another series called Lacuna. I had never heard of the cross over story before but must admit that I went and purchased the first one off immediately because I already liked the depiction of the characters from that universe. With regards to how this fit into the Wool story, I think it was actually quite interesting. Of course having read the other parts of the Wool series I understand that there are some things in this story that don't hold up under the scrutiny of the overall plot and it's details as set up by Hugh Howey. But honestly I would've been completely happy if the story had taken this kind of turn.
A couple of minor spelling errors or missing words but not even remotely enough to take me away from the story, hence the 5 star rating. I read another Wool fan fic by this author title Shear Terror and really didn't like it so I wasn't sure what I was going to get from this one. I think because it revolves around an actual character from the series it's a little easier to move forward with it because rather than feeling like fan fic, it actually feels more like Wool 1.5. I'm truly looking forward to beginning the Lacuna series after reading this and hope to see some similarities in the characters as how they were described in this short-story. I also wonder if the Lacuna series possibly fits this scenario into it's overall story arch at some point? Mmm, I must find out.
Would definitely recommend to fans of either Wool or Lacuna (I'm assuming) as well as sci-fi fans in general.
